IPL frequently asked questions
IPL – Permanent Hair Reduction
How does IPL Hair Reduction treatment work?
Strong pulses of safe filtered light are delivered to the area being treated. These heat the hair melanin, affecting the cells responsible for hair growth and inhibiting the growth of hair. Eventually the hair falls from the follicles and won’t grow back again. This treatment is best used on hair in the growth stage and because hairs can have different growth cycles, multiple sessions are required to permanently treat the area to be completely hair free.
WHAT AREAS CAN BE TREATED?
IPL Hair Reduction can be used on any area of the body. Hair may initially keep growing after the treatment, but the follicles soon reject the hair, which will fall away in 1-3 weeks.
WHAT DOES IPL HAIR REDUCTION TREATMENT FEEL LIKE?
A slight, harmless stinging sensation may be felt while receiving the treatment, as the hair is affected and weakens, however this is a good sign as it signals the process is working to treat the hair follicles. The sensation eases quickly after treatment, with any skin redness also fading within a few hours. While IPL treatment has little to no side effects, we will always do a small ‘test patch’ prior to treatment to confirm that your skin will not be adversely affected. We will also suggest post-treatment care to ensure optimum results with minimum discomfort.
HOW MANY TREATMENTS ARE REQUIRED?
For best results and permanent hair reduction, 8-10 sessions are required with each session needing a break of 2-4 weeks depending upon the area being treated. Our qualified and trained therapists will consult with you before the treatment and give you the necessary advice to be followed before and after each session. A typical session lasts for 15-20 minutes and sometimes even over 30 minutes, again depending upon the area being treated. Once you have completed a course of treatment you will need only occasional sessions to maintain your smooth, hair free skin.
IS THIS TREATMENT BE SUITABLE FOR ME?
IPL Hair Reduction gives good results on any type of hair and skin shade. Though best suited for people with black hair, as black hair heats more effectively, the light pulse can be adjusted to treat lighter colored hair.
IPL – Photo Rejuvenation /Acne
HOW IT WORKS?
The smooth glass surface of the IPL handpiece is gently placed on your skin and pulses of light are applied. Treatment is generally administered in a series of procedures that provide excellent long-term results, with minimal adverse effects and extremely satisfying results.
What to expect?
Depending on the conditions being treated and the severity of individual problems, a series of 5-6 treatment sessions may be recommended. When treating a full face, the procedure can take up to 30 minutes per session, while larger areas naturally take longer and smaller areas such as hands may take less time.
After a treatment your face may appear flushed, but this usually fades within a few hours. Clients with strong pigmentation may notice that it appears darker after treatment, however this darkness will be gone in 7-10 days. Makeup can be applied immediately after treatment if you need to return to work immediately.
